Africa On Safari Inc operated as east african travel consultants inc., from 1972 until 2005 when the company name was changed to better reflect the services offered. Africa On Safari Inc. continues to remain one of Canada's most experienced travel agencies to the African continent. The parent company was founded in 1972 when North Americans rarely chose Africa as a travel destination and the word safari was not part of the common vocabulary. The Company's aim was to raise the awareness of both the travel industry and the general public of Africa as a viable travel destination. To this end, the company has worked closely for over the last three decades with tourist boards, government departments and the travel industry. Today Africa and safaris are very desirable travel experiences. Tony Lopes, the Company's Kenyan-born President, has received achievement awards from several of the African countries including Zambia, Kenya, Senegal and the ASTA Africa Trophy. He continues to maintain a hands-on control of the operations.
