Select Mortgage (does business as Verico Select Mortgage) began in 1998 when Pacific Coast Savings Insurance Services (now part of Coast Capital Savings) purchased Newmarket Insurance Services Ltd. in Nanaimo. In the same year, an agreement was reached to purchase Chemainus Insurance Services from Chemainus Credit Union. In October of 1998, Pacific Coast Savings Insurance Services purchased fifty percent of Victoria-based Essex and Kent, enabling the company to offer mortgage-brokering services to the Victoria area as well as our up-island locations under the name Pacific Express Mortgage Corporation. In 1999, the remaining fifty percent of PEMC was purchased and the name was changed to U-Select Financial and Insurance Services Ltd, and was operated as a subsidiary company of Pacific Coast Savings Credit Union.
