TAKO is the best place for sushi. The price might be a little more than what you'd like to pay but it is well worth every penny as every other review has stated. The ONLY sushi place I enjoy going back to on a regular basis. Sat in one of their booth units during my last visit and it's more intimate, private. GREAT FOOD, NICE PRICE, EASY TO GET TO When I sat at the sushi bar, I usually ordered the Sea Urchin, Blue Fin Toro, Jumbo Amaebi or anything thats the chef recommended I really enjoy their black seasame Ice-cream... AT LEAST VISIT ONCE but I bet you'll be back!!! ENJOY!!!!

We've been regular customers since Tako opened...
We've been regular customers since Tako opened back in 2005. It is no longer the same. All the bad review probably came around last summer. Services was SO slow. Since we are regulars, we expected better treatment. One Friday night, we waited 45 minutes to have our orders taken, then another 40 minutes to get our food. We went in at 7 pm and did not leave until 9:45 pm. If you are dining with friends, then maybe it wasn't too bad. If you are with your family, whom you see at home, that was a bit too long. We are Chinese and have been to numerous Japanese restaurants. We have also stayed in Japan for 2 months. So how does this restaurant compares? The food was above average (their Sashimi is very good, and spicy salmin maki is exceptional). However their food is slowly going downhill. There was a change of partnership this past summer. Under this new partnership (at least one partner stays on), they started to go cheap. First, they tried to eliminate the free appetizer (Japanese pickled radish, for haven sake), but have lately put it back. There's no more complimentary dessert. Then they are changing the soya sauce, claiming they are just changing supplier. In reality, they are giving their customers cheap Chinese dark soya sauce, which is salty and thick. You don't want to use soya sauce that is made in China. Trust me on that. Sushi should be dipped in Japanese soya, which has a delicate sweet flavour. They now have more waiters, but service is still slow. Our last visit was on Dec 5. We spent $65 for 3 persons. At that time, they were putting 1/3 of the dinning room with the premium soya sauce, and the remaining 2/3 on cheap soya sauce. We don't know what kind of game they are playing, see if customers notice? When they use the cheaper soya sauce for the whole DR, that's the time we would stop going and order take-out instead, if we still incline to go at all. Someone commented that their service is as authentic as one can get, that this is part of an Asian Culture. This is so not true. A typical Japanese Restaurants always greet their customers, on their way in, and on their way out. There will always be fresh catch of the day they would offer as a sampler, and complimentary appertizers. The waiters bow to their customers once the food are laid on the table. Everything the Japanese does has a ritual of some sort, which they follow strictly. In Tako, nothing is complimentary, except for the Japanese pickled radish, for now.

What can you say... people are human!
We eat at Tako on a regular basis. Before I met my wife I had had a bad sushi experience and therefore raw fish was not my thing. She loves it, so I tired again. My first experience was at a restauarant in downtown TO. Now we try sushi places all over. And we've been to at least a dozen. My opinion of Tako. We've been there at least 15 -20 times. Some days the service is slower than others and their Tempura has days; as does their Miso. On the whole though they are pretty consistent and their fish IS the freshest we ever come across. Would I re-visit? Yes, regularly!

Not for my taste buds
My wfie and I were seated, and got our menus. However it took a very long time for our ordres to be taken, and finally after the waitress came to our table, the food took even a longer time. When it did come, i felt the sushi was foul and defenitly not fresh. the Temp appetizer was better but not crips enough. As well i didn't get enough sauce and had to remind the staff several times for more. As for the edamame, it was a bit too salty for my liking but was okay. With so many other places in Oakville, i'll defneitly look around.

Owned by Chinese people, eager to sell you whatever they can. Service is so-so at best. Anyways I prefer better service and better quality food. Oakville has been lucky enough to have multiple sushi restaurants within close proximity of each other, and personally, for me, there are other places I'd rather go to. But hey, that's just me.

The only time we ever ate from this place was we ordered delivery. Their flyer said we were in their delivery area but when he arrived with the food 40 minutes later the driver YELLED at me because he said it took him an hour to get there. I live near 3rd line and bridge road - really it's not THAT far from the place. Aside from ALL that- the food wasn't bad but I won't ever go/order from them again.

We've been to Tako many times and frequent a lot of the other sushi places around Mississagua. Although yes it is more expensive compared to the all you can eat places, this has the best quality sashimi around this area. I normally don't like the tuna at the other places, but here it is delicious. I was a bit disappointed with the fried Udon dishes that we've ordered before, but maybe that's because of the brocolli they put in it and I'm Chinese and am used to the genuine Chinese style noodles. I recommend this restaurant for the sashimi and the rolls (Rainbow is excellent)

I can't understand anyone giving this restaurant...
I can't understand anyone giving this restaurant a bad review. I've eaten in a lot of Japanese restaurants in both Canada and the USA and Tako is certainly one of if not the best. The food is always consistant and very good. Best Unagi Sushi anywhere! The service is exactly what I expect in an authentic Japanese restaurant and it's good. If you haven't been, give it a try as it's hard to believe you could be Disappointed. George

Let me put any negative reviews to rest. I have been to Asia, and spent a year there in Korea and Japan. I have tried at LEAST 100 different Japanese restaurants in Canada and Japan, and I can tell you this is one of the most authentic. The food is well prepared, the eel was one of the best I've had. The sushi was also excellent, and overall everything was fresh and the presentation was also nice. Don't expect happy go lucky servers at an Asian restaurant, it's not part of the culture. If you do get an overly friendly server it probably means the restaurant is not as authentic. Overall Tako is an excellent restaurant and the only thing that bothered me was how empty it was on a Friday night. Good restaurants need the clientele and I hope they can survive in that location, it seems a bit out of the way.

The people giving this place are completely...
The people giving this place are completely wrong. They either were having a bad day or are completely ignorant regarding japanese food. I am a big fan of sushi and japanese cuisine, i have to about as many japanese restaurants as you can think of. I am really crazy on trying new places. Tako is amongst the top places i've been to. The food is great, the fish is NOT too thick as someone said, and the fish is NOT foul. The food is fresh, and quite delicious, the ambiance is excellent; relaxing and elegant. The service was good and quite friendly, i've been coming here regularly since it has opened because i found no better alternatives in the oakville area. The only issue with the service is that i believe them to be understaffed and when the place gets really busy, things do slow down. Despite this, coming to Tako has always been a pleasureable experience. I have been around, and believe me, this place is highly recommended.

I find the food pretty good. This restaurant can be one of the best in Oakville or is the best when the crowds are small. I find every time we visit if the place is busy we know that the service will be poor. If Tako is slow or early in the evening you find it to be the very best. On our last visit we were seated quickly only to see that two couples that arrived after us, had there orders taken before ours. Once our order were taken and food arrived we had to ask for 2 place settings since we were a party of 4 and only 2 settings were on the table. We order appetizers and had the whole meal arrive at once. Food was good and atmosphere was great. Take the good with the bad. If they added another person serving the place would get 10ssss.

As soon as i stepped into Tako, i was really pleased. It has a pretty nice atmosphere so my appetite got nice as i seated. The food and everything thing was quite nice but nothing superb... However what killed my evening was the service. I seems like they have really poor management because you can always see the workers there caring more about conversing amongst themselves than taking care of me.. Service was slow and very un-polite. That ruined my night.

This is my 13 year old son's favourite restaurant. We go regularly and always enjoy both the service and food. We have also brought family members for special occasions and found that everyone has always enjoyed everything. My son always eats the Bento box when we go to Tako's. I am always amazed at how much he eats here since he is not usually a big eater...it doesn't hurt that this stuff is actually good for him too!

We shared the Tempura appetizer which was awesome!! The best I'd ever had. We also had the Spider Maki, Philidelphia Maki, california rolls, and the Magura Sashimi. Everything was amazing. The fish was extremely fresh, so fresh the Sashimi seemed to melt in you mouth. The Staff was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. We will definately make this a regular stop.

Quality of food far beyond what the strip mall...
Quality of food far beyond what the strip mall surroundings would have suggested. All sashimi portions generously and properly cut. The bluefin tuna toro was a revelation: spanking fresh, terrific texture, one of the best pieces of fish I've had all year. A relative bargain at $12.95 considering extremely few restaurants are willing to stock it. Other sashimi impeccably fresh and properly presented. This is heads and shoulders above all the "average" Japanese restaurants you will find in the GTA, which is really a pleasant surprise given the fact that it is in a strip mall next to a bar. I've been here 3 times in the last 6 months and every single time they have far exceeded my expectations. Ignore the one-off negative reviews... they sound kind of biased to me. Look at the overall positive reviews this place has been getting. Service is friendly and efficient.

The best sashimi in the Oakville/Mississauga...
The best sashimi in the Oakville/Mississauga area. If you have been to Nami in Toronto and liked the food there you'll definitely not be disappointed here. Ask for the apricot glazed Black cod and you'll not be disappointed (the tast is very similar the one I had at NoBu in New York, except this one is a little sweeter) In fact, I was told that some of their fish were flown in directly from Japan. Now this is what most Japanese restaurants who only server california roll and low quality sashimi can't compare to.

I have been going to Tako since it opened. After reading some of the negative reviews I can understand were they come from.Although last year there was a short period of time when the food was not up to par. I am here to say don't pass on this place.Service is out standing and the food even better. There is not a lot of sushi palces in Oakville, but this Tako should be your first choice. And no,I don't work there!!!!

My wife and I have been here many times and are always blown away by the freshness and service. As previously mentioned, people complaining about exploding rolls and bad service must have had it coming to them. FYI-rolls are suposed to be eaten in one bite. The price can vary depending on how much you eat, but our dinners for 2 were around $60-70 taxes & tip incl.

Second visit to this excellent restaurant. Plenty of variety for sushi and non-sushi eaters. Even my 4 year old loved the food. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The food is delicious. This does not feel like a suburban restaurant - very elegant ambience.

I have been to this restaurant more times than I can count...by myself and with friends. It's one of the finest sushi places in Oakville and Toronto (I have sampled quite a few). They have the best maki I've found anywhere, and I have no questions about the freshness. The portions are always generous, the staff is very friendly and try to recognize their regulars. If you come on the weekend they also offer oysters.
