Excellent and a London Staple!!
My husband and I have made Michael's a part of out life for many years now, for personal celebrations and business meeting lunches. The atmosphere is classy and elegant and so are the staff! The food is wonderful!! I would recommend this resturant to anyone.

Private Room for Meetings
Great place to book a business meeting. Private room was great. We decided to meet here regularly so were able to set up a 3 selection menu choice for a set price. It was great. Looked forward to lunch every week. Not too mention the numerous times I have come with my husband for dinner. Great all around experience.

Probably one of the nicest restaurant's I've ever eaten in - in Canada. Staff was excellent, and the place is very fancy. We we're serenaded by several musicians through the night. If I remember right, there was a piano player, an accordion player, and an opera singer. Food was excellent I would return here again. For a fancy place, the bill really was not that much.

Hard to go wrong here. I've been several times, and the service and food are wonderful. The Maitre D is a bit over the top, but it's obvious he likes what he's doing. It's pricey for me, but worth every penny.

This place has all the trappings and faux opulence of the high american gothic take on French courtly dining ritual. The menu seems scattered, as though they're trying to recreate the most well known dishes from the standard room-service menus of the great hotels of old Europe. Tableside prep adds to the illusion of division between the eating and the serving class. Great if you want to impress your date by making a waiter feel small. Has become a local institution and so they do the dishes the do very well, but the whole undertaking feels a little to false, too chummy and self-satisfied. Onion soup was good, and the staff do act like they really care about the dining experience.

I love this place. The perfect mix of classy but not overly stuffy or pretentious. The House Salad is incredible. Don't know what's in the dressing but I wish I could buy it. Jack is a legend and a key part of the experience. The world could use a lot more people like Jack

This place is outstanding. Not cheap.... but worth every penny. We were getting tired of the same old restaurant chains with newbie help and formula food, so we went to Michael's On The Thames hoping for a more upscale experience. We weren't disappointed. From the very attentive service to the Chateaubriand-for-two, this place has an approach to fine dining that's all but disappeared. I was blown away by the table-side prep of an unbelievably tasty Caesar salad. And they had pianist no less! One of our biggest pet peeves is noise levels that pretty much rule out conversation. I don’t know if it’s the glass and chrome of so many places –speaking of which, we were recently put off by the din at the incredibly pricey Scaramouch in Toronto– but all that racket makes the evening a chore. Not at this place. I don't know who Michael is but hats off to him. A great evening. Thanks!

was a nice place to treat you and significant other to! we had a great time here with live piano and great service. the owner came to our table as he did with every table i noticed. the meal was perfectly cooked and garnished. i thought the bottles of wine were a bit pricey but the house wine was very good. the waitress was helpful and funny witch was nice. definitely my new favorite place to go i use to be a la casa kinda person but this evening changed my mind what a jem!

Just love the Chicken Crepe they got. They always provide great service either they are busy or not. I can't tell you much about their food other than the chicken crepe (I tried marinated beef steak once, but didn't like it because I never like aged beef; didn't know why i ordered it to begin with) because that's the dish I ordered every time I go there. I also tried calamari once, the squid they chose had too much moisture and thus the calamari was soft and the batter was coming apart from the squid. Their price is very affordable. I also like their atmosphere, very quiet and old style. Especially enjoy the piano time (although the server could have seated us in the room closer to the piano, but they were busy, who to blame?!) Their dessert is alright. Good but not out standing. I will definitely return, because I dream of myself eating their chicken crepe.

I am a bit biased due to our engagement that night.....however, I felt the atmosphere was romantic, not "out of date" like other reviews. The live piano above the door was a fantastic touch and added to the romantic feeling when we entered. The ceaser salad for two at the table is a great touch and well made. The apps were fresh and quite enjoyable. The wine list is in a grade school binder, with actual labels and descriptions. Neat idea, however, the choice was a bit lacking and 'old school'. The servers were good about seating us in a quiet corner and seating others far from us. (Leading me to believe we smelled or had bad manners). Little known to me, he was going to propose and had asked for this. Well done to all the folks who helped make it special! Unfortunately, after the proposal a server came over to tell us the long drawn out story of his son's proposal.....certainly put a stain on our special night. The owner (known to sing italian love songs to couples/anniversarys etc) waited until the end of our meal to sing to us. He could of come earlier to keep up the feelings. The rest of the meal was tasteless due to my tears, and I'm not sure what we had. Therefore my review is based upon the service and it must be said it was a bit much from some and neglectful from others. Not much consistancy and lacking in finesse.

ver y disappointed
Regardless of the entree (Lamb/scallops/veal/chicken/salmon) it was served on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes with steamed carrots & zuchinni. No creativity or diversity. The Caesar salad was limp because of too much oil and lemon. The service was terrible - we spent 4 hrs (when it should have been 2 hrs max) mostly waiting for the servers to clear the table. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone

the only thing i would complain about this whole experience is how dissapointed i was that the piano player only played a few times in the couple hours we were there. i was really looking forward to hearing her and she was busy walking around most of the time with the maitre D. other then that the ceaser salad was the best i have EVER eaten, my chicken was good and my boyfriends steak diane was awesome! goood sauce.table side service is great, only place in the city i know of with that, nice place to go for an anniversary, will definitly be going back soon.

The food is excellent. Great presentations especially if you order a "table side" meal. Service was solid. Sorry to see some of their veteran servers leave. If you are going to charge big bucks for a meal, you need to have professional servers, not some university kid pretending to be a waiter. Still, the atmosphere is great (even if it is a bit dated) and the table side singing and music elevates the experience to a 10 and makes it unmatched in the city. Keep up the great work! :)

The waiter pretended the restaurant was closed on a Thursday at 9.45 pm when it was clearly open and the schedule was until 12 am. All this because we only wanted a 2 glasses of champagne. Very rude and discriminative.

Overpriced and old fashioned food, but it was still very good and it was like stepping back in time. Still enjoy our visits but it would nice to see it get a makeover.

I found this restaurant most European-like with it's attention to detail, quality and presentation of the food and excellence of service. The chef is obviously a most excellent one. The wait-staff were professionally trained, helpful and congenial without being overbearing. The pianist musical presentation was of the perfect volume. One could enjoy the music or have a quiet conversation without shouting. In addition, the occaisional tableside vocals by the Maitre D', Jack DiCarlo, a most pleasing Italian tenor, enhanced the restaurant's totally European ambiance. It was so perfect that my friend and I enjoyed dinner there 4 nights in a row while visiting London. Now I don't have to fly to Italy or France! We intend to continue our journey through the menu on next year's visit!

Service is fantastic. All staff make this restaurant feel like a 5 star place. Love the live entertainment, very enjoyable. Food is very good, nicely presented and portions are a good size. Lamb chops were expensive though and not much meat on them.

Superb! This is how a restaurant should be run. The service is fantastic, and the atmosphere is terrific. I love the fact that there is live piano and that Jack DiCarlo will sing for you on request. It is the little touches that make this one of, if not, thebest restaurant in London. The food is good. Although I have had better food at other places, I still choose Michaels frequently for the overall experience.
