Samurai Japanese Restaurant

I've heard about this restaurant a lot very popular restaurant in downtown. it wasn't bad but not that good than I expected. Dishes were good. but it's little bit busy so the service wasn't satisfactory.

Been to this location of samurai many many times but since just getting take out for dinner tonite, thought i'd do a review as well. There are 3 other locations by the same name but this location is not affiliated with other location. However, Banzai is the same owners as the cambie location. I go to samurai if im looking for quick sushi take out. They give huge portions and you can probably get full on 2 or 3 pieces of their house roll (i do anyways) but you get the picture. You don't have to spend much to get full here. Problem is, 1- a lot of their rolls are big b/c there is so much rice!! The sashimi pieces are also very big and we usually have to cut them in half. 2- the legenday Asian non-service. Why not have some service? Would recommend this place for its value but quality wise tho i would go somewhere else (or skip the Asians).

We've been here several times now since it opened earlier this year. We've sampled many items on the menu, and the food is always good. However, the service has varied from ok to bad. I went for lunch a couple times, once the service was quick and attentive, the other time it was poor, to the point where we couldn't even find anyone to get our bill. Dinner time service seems to be the worst. Last night four of were seated, and no one came for 10 mins. 2 other tables sat down after us and received tea right away, while we sat with nothing, and no server to help us. I don't know if it's a Japanese restaurant thing, I've noticed similar lack of service in a couple other asian restaurants in the area. It's too bad, cus the food is good.

We really used to love this place. We always ordered Sushi and Sashimi or one of their dinner specials (A,B or C). However, the last 4 times we went there (and I have a hard time to believe that this could be coincidence) we had to return the tuna. All other fish and rolls were very good, however, the tuna smelled not fresh and certainly did not taste fresh. BTW: do not order curry here. This is something they can't prepare very well.
