Abbotsford Baptist Church

It was on March 16, 1910 when eighteen Swedish émigrés founded a home mission work in Matsqui. With encouragement from the First Swedish Baptist Church (now Northwest Baptist) of Bellingham, Washington, these Swedish settlers in the central Fraser Valley all were pioneers in both farming and faith. Swedish was for them the language of heaven and when, in 1944 our Conference decided it was time to conduct services in English, one stalwart Swede remonstrated in her thickly accented Scandinavian melodic English, Have you ever heard of anyone getting saved in English?
